Latency is often inevitable - and can be a distracting nuisance - whether you're dealing with recording live instruments, vocals, or even processing sounds or software synthesizers in a DAW. By definition, latency is the time it takes for audio to enter a system, get processed, and then come back out of the system - usually measured in milliseconds. Knowing how to manage latency is critical to keep the creative process flowing, and as a producer you should be ready to deal with latency in any situation. This requires you to learn some key terminology that you'll run into no matter what DAW you work with, along with techniques to minimize latency whenever necessary.
